Splash Pools Oval Deluxe Above Ground Pool Review

Splash Pools Oval Deluxe Above Ground Pool

If you are looking for a steel-walled above ground pool, Splash Pools has five sizes to choose from. You can also choose between a round and an oval swimming pool.

They are all metal above ground pools with all the parts, except the top resin covers and the resin ladder, made from galvanized steel.

This makes them incredibly sturdy and very durable.

Because of the weight of individual parts and the kind of preparation required (you may need to make a concrete pad or level the ground with sand), we recommend professional installation.

If you prefer a pool that’s easy to set up yourself but is also durable, we recommend a steel-framed pool. It has a vinyl liner with a lightweight steel frame for support.

Best Features

1. Metal construction with Tough Vinyl Liner

If you are looking for a pool that will last 15 years or more, the Splash Pools Deluxe is the right choice. The 15-year warranty guarantees that it will last that long.

The metal sidewall, metal frame, and heavy-duty vinyl lining keep the pool in good condition through multiple seasons.

The wall is made from hot-dipped galvanized steel. The hot-dipping process (literary dipping the steel in molten zinc) protects the steel from rust and corrosion.

One thing we particularly like about the wall, other than its sturdy construction, is the beautifully patterned finish. It makes the pool look better than a hunk of metal sitting in your backyard.

For extra support, the pool has a frame also made from hot-dipped galvanized steel.

The vertical frame supports are painted to match the pool’s finish. The top and bottom rails are also galvanized steel and are painted the same color as the frame supports.

Overall, the pool looks quite good. It’d look even better when paired with a pool deck.

To contain the water, the pool uses a heavy-duty vinyl liner that can withstand weather elements.

You may need to replace the liner after around 5-7 years, but the steel wall and frame will last much longer.

Other than the vinyl, the only other parts that are not metal are the molded resin covers and the resin ladder.

2. True Swimming Depth

Each of the sizes, from the 18ft round pool to the 30ft oval pool, has a depth of 52 inches.

That’s within the range of most residential in-ground pools. So unlike some above ground pools that are only good for splashing, you can swim in your Splash Pools Deluxe.

3. Two Shape Options

You can select the round or oval pool.

The round sizes are ideal for most families. They generally take up less space, they are easier to set up, and they can hold more people at the same time.

They also have a cleaner look since they don’t have angled braces like the oval pool.

If you love your laps, then we recommend the oval pool. The elongated shape gives you more length to swim, and some people think it looks better than a traditional round pool.

But it will take more time to set up.

4. Accessories

All Splash Pools come with the most important accessories. The pools are ready to set up and use without the need to buy additional parts.

Here’s what you’ll get along with the pool.

  1. 1 HP filter pump. It's more powerful than most of the pumps supplied with other above ground pools. It circulates the water in less time and can drive a suction or pressure-side automatic pool cleaner.
  2. A through-the-wall skimmer that removes leaves and other debris from the pool.
  3. A sturdy resin ladder with a swim-through barrier for safety and an external staircase that you can lift up to prevent pool access.

Issues & Concerns

Expensive

If you are looking for a budget or even a mid-range above ground pool, this is not it.

The smallest size is cheaper than the others but still more expensive than most above ground pools.

But considering this is steel above ground pool, the price is not surprising. After all, you’ll have it for the next 15 years.

Once you install it, maintenance costs are not very high. You’ll probably have to replace the liner after several years, but other than that, you only need the usual pool maintenance stuff – chemicals, cleaning tools, etc.

Tedious to Install

When you budget for the pool, we highly recommend you include installation costs, especially if you opt for the larger 24ft, 27ft or 30ft size.

You can certainly install the pool yourself, but it is a tedious daylong task. And that’s with 3 or 4 people helping you.

You can’t hope to do it alone.

To give you an idea of just how tedious setup is, the large oval pool comes in a pallet weighing almost 1,000lbs.

So you have to figure out how to move the parts to your backyard before you even get started with the installation.

Professional installation will cost you more, but you’ll get to enjoy your pool sooner, and it’ll ensure it has been set up correctly.

Rusting

While the steel has rust protection, some parts such as the bottom rail might start rusting after some time. That’s because galvanization does not guarantee the metal is rustproof.

Depending on your water chemistry and your environment (e.g., if you leave near the sea), the metal might still rust though not as aggressively as unprotected steel.

If you notice any rusting, you can add a coat of rustproof spray paint.

Assembly Instructions

The manufacturer provides an installation video to make things easier for you. If you have a whole day and 2-3 other people to help you, you can set up the pool yourself.

But it’s a lot of work.

That’s because you need to prepare a level ground. You can make a concrete pad or level the area with sand.

Then you can begin moving the heavy parts into place.

Unlike some above ground pools that need no tools for installation, you’ll need to tighten lots screws on this one.

Once you’ve set up the wall and frame, the rest is relatively easy. You just need to put in the vinyl liner, connect the pump and fill with water.

Unless you don’t mind waiting an entire day for the pool to fill up, it’s more convenient to call a pool filling service.

Don’t forget to add some chlorine tablet before your family gets into the pool.

Bottom Line

3.4/5

The Splash Pools Deluxe above ground pools are great for anyone looking for a sturdy and durable steel-walled above ground swimming pool.
