Aquabot Classic Platinum Robotic Pool Cleaner Review: Pros, Cons & Bottom Line

Aquabot Classic Platinum Robotic Pool Cleaner

The Aquabot Classic is one of the older models of Aquabot. We love its cleaning performance, proven reliability, and ease of maintenance, but it’s not the focus of this review.

Instead, we review its upgraded sibling, the Aquabot Classic Platinum. It comes with the reliability of the Classic model but with extra features and better cleaning performance.

The Classic Platinum features a longer cable with an anti-tangle swivel, a better scrubbing brush, smart navigation, and two filter media options.

It’s, of course, more expensive. But it’s worth it for pool owners who are looking for a reliable, high-performance in-ground pool cleaner.

Best Features

1. Smart Navigation

Not just Dolphin cleaners can boast about having a smart navigation system. While Maytronics has CleverClean and SmartNav, the Aquabot has the Aqua Smart navigation system.

The Aqua Smart system guides the robot cleaner along the most efficient cleaning path. Even if it encounters an obstacle, it can evade it and go back to its path.

This has two big benefits: It makes cleaning quicker and more efficient, and it reduces the number of missed spots.

The navigation system not only helps the robot cover the floor of the pool; it also guides it up the wall and along the waterline for complete pool coverage.

2. Dual Scrubbing Brushes

For most in-ground pools, vacuuming is not enough to get all the dirt out. It may remove particles suspended in water, but it leaves the debris stuck on the pool wall and floors untouched.

The Aquabot Classic Platinum combines scrubbing and vacuuming to deliver the best cleaning performance.

Two PVC brushes, one at the front and another at the rear, grip the pool surface and scrubs it clean. Whether you are struggling with algae, calcification, or biofilm, the brushes get it all.

Once the stubborn debris has been dislodged, the onboard vacuum can easily scoop it up.

3. Two Filter Media Options

We love the versatility of pool robots with multiple filter options.

Instead of using the same filter all the time, you can choose the one that is ideal for the type of debris you want to remove.

With the Aquabot Classic Platinum, you have a choice between two filters: an ultra-fine 2-micron bag and an EZ Clean basket.

The bag is great for large debris like leaves, twigs, and bugs. Use it when you open the pool or if your pool is near trees that shed leaves and acorns into the water.

The basket is preferable for everyday cleaning. It traps smaller debris like silt, sand, and small pebbles as well as algae. It’s also easier to clean with a quick hose down.

The only downside of the filters is that they are only accessible from the bottom, meaning you have to turn the cleaner over to remove them.

4. Timer

The Aquabot Classic Platinum lacks an auto-cleaning scheduler. But it has a timer that lets you select from three cleaning cycle options: 1, 1.5, and 2 hours depending on the level of cleaning you want.

Issues & Concerns

It’s Heavy

Aquabot includes a free caddy with some of their pool robots. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with the Classic Platinum.

That’s too bad considering the weight of the cleaner. A caddy would have made storing and moving the cleaner and power unit easier.

But even if you decide to get the caddy separately, it won’t make it any easier to lift the cleaner out of the water.

The water adds to the cleaner’s weight, making it more difficult to lift it out. You’ll need to use both hands to get it out of the pool.

Bag is Difficult to Clean

The filter bag is a good addition, especially for pools located near trees. But it can be a pain to clean.

The problem is not the leaves or acorns. It’s the fine silt and sand that takes time to wash off. If you can, use the filter basket as much as possible. It’s much easier to clean.
